A Little About Me
Let’s take a break from all of the tech talk for awhile. The information overload can be overwhelming and even though I try my best to make it easy to understand...it’s still a lot. But I’m really excited for you to get to know me a little better!
Here are some facts about me and some of the things I like to do while I’m not working on a website project!
I’m married to a local Washingtonian and we have two precious sons. And when I say precious…I mean wild and crazy and I don’t have enough energy for that. But they fill my life with so much joy and they are my greatest blessing.
To follow that statement (and another fun fact) — I’m the oldest of three girls.
I love all kinds of music. Pop, hip-hop, country, heavy metal, classical, musicals…all of it! I’m always the DJ on road trips and have dozens of playlists with hundreds of songs loaded up on them. Music has always been a huge part of my life and I really enjoy listening to most everything.
I have played violin since the 5th grade (although not as actively anymore). I also sing!
Another music-related fact — I wanted to go to school for music therapy. To make a long story short of why it didn’t work out, I ended up wounding my vocal chords and they never fully healed in time for me to continue that path. They are a lot better now, and I continue to sing at home and in solos or small groups at church. I really want to join a local community choir soon!
I grew up in Minnesnoowwwta. And no, I don’t have an accent. While it really does have harsh winters, I will say this about Minnesota — even when the ground is covered in ice and snow 9 months out of the year, you still get sunshine. It will be a beautiful, clear, sunny day and be 20 below. And I’ll take that over a dark, dreary, cloud-filled day any time.
My stepdad was an avid hunter. He made trips to Kodiak, Alaska, Montana, and even went on a month-long African Safari! Using bows and rifles, I’ve hunted deer, turkey, and pheasant with him. I’m so glad he introduced me to the sport. It was a lot of fun. Waking up at the crack of dawn, putting on your non-scent shampoo and body wash, packing all your gear, and decked out in camo to walk out into the freezing cold woods…what’s not to love ;).
My favorite drink is a strong margarita with extra lime and a salt rim.
I went to a Tropicana 500 Nascar race with my grandpa. The energy there was thrilling!
When I visited my grandparents in the summer, we would go to midget car races on Saturday nights at the local race track. My grandpa had a lot of connections with the drivers since he owned an auto repair shop and sponsored races from time to time. The summer of my 16th birthday, my grandpa’s friend (a midget car driver) let me drive his midget car on the closed track. By far the COOLEST thing I’ve ever done!
While I loved racing the midget car, I got a dirt bike and it scared the crap out of me. I’ll stick to 4 wheels, thank you very much.
I love to ski! I’m no pro — I did grow up learning how to do it in Minnesota where there aren’t real mountains — but I can stay get down a hill without falling and have a blast. I have been skiing in the Rocky Mountains and also on Mt. Hood in Oregon!
I’m a Chicago Bears fan. I know…I know…It can be sad to be a fan of that team. But they’re mine and I love them. And I’m not even sure how they became my team. I grew up in Minnesota but I was born in Illinois. So I think I just stuck with the team of the state I was born in. Also, my grandparents lived in Illinois and I spent a couple weeks out of the summer there each year. So that area became my home away from home. DA BEARS!
I LOVE video games. My husband and I regularly play League of Legends together. I also enjoy playing adventure/exploration games like Assassin’s Creed, Tomb Raider, and Skyrim. I grew up playing games with my dad on the Sega Dreamcast and Sega Genesis. Tomb Raider was a game we really enjoyed playing together because the old Tomb Raider games (which were all on PC) had a lot of puzzles and problem-solving in them.
One of my dreams is to live on the water! Either a beach or a lake where our family can go boating on the weekends. I love swimming. I love the sun. And I LOVE water tubing! I had friends and some family members who had boats for awhile and it was always a treat if we were invited to out on the boat for a day. I’d love to have my kids grow up being able to do that and invite their friends over for a day out on the water!
I am definitely an extrovert and I love to have a good time! When I’m out with friends, I’m the one pushing the more timid ones to get out on the dancefloor, buying random people at the bar shots, singing at the top of my lungs to my favorite songs, and all around just talking, laughing, and having a great time! I love to try new restaurants, go to concerts, and just explore new things with the people I love.
Before starting my own business, I waitressed. And I actually really enjoyed it. It’s good money, you meet new people every day, and I enjoyed the hustle. I’ve worked at places like O’Charley’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Dave & Buster’s.
I loved school! My graduating class was 89 people. The school in our small town was a k-12 school meaning all grades k-12 were under the same roof. There wasn’t a separate middle school or high school. And I actually really liked it! Sometimes my high school classes were on the other side of the school where the elementary classes were. It was fun to see the little ones and I’m sure they were excited when the “big kids” walked down their hallway. There weren’t any real “cliques” or “mean girls”. We all had fun together and knew people in other grades. I loved going to basketball games and cheer on my friends from the stands. I’m very thankful for the high school experience I had, because I know a lot of people didn’t have it that way.
Volleyball is my favorite sport to play! Football is probably my favorite sport to watch. Basketball is a close second. I don’t know much about basketball because I never played it. But my husband loves basketball so I’m learning more and more all of the time. I’ve been to one NFL game (Vikings vs. Cowboys) and one NBA game (Portland Trailblazers vs. OKC Thunder). My husband is really working on getting me to a Seahawks game!
My husband’s family introduced me to a trick-taking card game called Pinochle. My family loved board games and card games but this was one I had never heard of. But apparently it’s a really popular game! Anyways, we love playing it together on Saturday nights while drinking wine and chatting about life. It’s one of my new favorite things to do. :)
